Who’s timeline & schedule are you working to?

It’s been a very busy week – the last run to lodge client BAS’s on time. Of course there’s always the last minute stragglers, slow in getting information to me. Par for the course right?

Well, it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way! I emailed my stragglers early last week, letting them know if they didn’t have their information to me by COB Friday, I couldn’t guarantee I would be able to lodge their BAS on time due to a tight schedule this week.

Well, waddaknow, I had everything I needed by Friday! Funny that heh?

Over the weekend, I had urgent SOS messages from 5 clients about varying issues. Panic stations on their end. After carefully reading through each message, I quickly worked out it wasn’t life or death – my time on the weekend with family is very precious to me. I sent back replies advising I was out of town and away from the office, visiting my parents and would look into the issue on my return. Low and behold, they all messaged back a few hours later saying they’d worked out a solution to the problem which was so pressing only a short time ago.

I’ve found setting boundaries and not working on other people’s schedules has taken away the stress and overwhelm. “Calmed the farm” as my boys would say! And it’s so damn empowering! I’m now more able to look at a situation, decide whether it needs my immediate and urgent attention and respond accordingly. Very rarely is it life or death (well usually NEVER) and it’s important to be able to step back and not react straight away.

So, needless to say, all BAS’s are lodged and I’ve been able to get back to working ON my business – a never-ending to-do list right there!
